Obama used marijuana and cocaine in college by his own admission and look where he is now. He’s as successful (by most people’s measure) as a person can be. Yet he still advocates a drug war which ruins the lives of people doing things not at all different from what he did in college. Some, in fact, are just using marijuana (the less malicious of the two drugs) for medicinal purposes.
So what exactly is the fear here? If the government doesn’t step in and stop people from doing drugs their lives will be ruined? It sure didn’t ruin Obama’s life, but I’ll tell you what you could have. If he’d been caught, and sentenced to jail time for it (which could have been VERY lengthy) he would never be anywhere near as successful as he is today.
What if, out of the millions imprisoned for drug possession, we have the man who could have cured cancer or the woman who could have found a solution for sustainable energy, or better yet, someone who was one drug bust away from going on to be president behind bars. Our current president was always just one drug bust away from being that himself, who’s to say it hasn’t happened to someone else?
We may very well be imprisoning the people who could save, or at the very least improve, our country. Drug users aren’t necessarily bad people any more than drinkers or compulsive eaters necessarily are, yet we cage them up like one might expect murderers caged, and often times turned them in to hardened criminals in the process. It’s time the president acknowledge the hypocrisy inherent in his waging the drug war and either turn himself in for drug possession or end the war on drugs immediately, and with retroactive effect.

Drugs can ruin your life
So if we catch you using them we’re going to put you in jail and ruin your life.
