Illinois is likely to be the next state to allow medical marijuana use, after state lawmakers voted to approve legislation. Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is expected to sign it into law.

These times, of course, do not take into account the wait to see the surgeon, many times that wait being years, not weeks. There is no reason to think that socializing medicine in the U.S. will result in any different sort of picture.

I’m actually trying to convince myself this wasn’t a joke.

Of course they refer to both ammo and guns individually as “extremely deadly” which is about par for Britain. They should be worrying about something that actually kills people in the UK, like the NHS.

What gets me most I think, is that they didn’t bring the bullet or firing pin which would be the two parts that might cause problems getting through security, and then they went and circle jerked about how they snuck a useless chunk of plastic on a train.

A California father of four died Wednesday shortly after a group of police allegedly beat him with batons as he lay defenseless on the sidewalk. Cops, before confiscating witness’ cameras, also reportedly unleashed a canine unit on him.

I mentioned a few days ago that the FDA is considering new regulations on caffeine, because they don’t want it added to foods and drinks other than coffee, tea, or colas, which are “traditional” caffeinated items.

Unsurprisingly, the FDA’s arguments as to why these regulations are needed have taken the “think of the children” route, a route which could possibly lead to age requirements for caffeine purchases — a “caffeination age,” if you will. It’s not hard to imagine:

“I’d like to get these two Red Bulls.”

“Can I see your ID?”

Deputy FDA Commissioner Michael Taylor released a Q&A which addressed this very issue and very clearly didn’t deny the possibility of a coming caffeination age:

Q. Is it possible that FDA would set age restrictions for purchase?

A. We have to be practical; enforcing age restrictions would be challenging. For me, the more fundamental questions are whether it is appropriate to use foods that may be inherently attractive and accessible to children as the vehicle to deliver the stimulant caffeine and whether we should place limits on the amount of caffeine in certain products.

As much as Taylor implies that it might not be practical to card caffeine purchasers, that impracticality has never stopped the government from carding us for liquor.

It’s a little ironic that this new regulation would come on the scene just as regulations on marijuana are loosening in places like Colorado and Washington. It’s a bit like playing Whack-A-Mole — as soon as we knock down one restriction on what we can do with our own bodies, another one pops right up.
